We continuously improve our operations to reduce environmental impact while maintaining product quality and manufacturing excellence.

Planet Passionate Targets

Our operational sustainability efforts focus on four key impact areas:

Carbon

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions across manufacturing and operations.

As architects and contractors work to design and construct building projects in a more sustainable manner, the consideration of embodied carbon has become a bigger factor in understanding the overall impact of a project's carbon footprint.

Designers are working to balance the reduction of emissions from a building's operations, known as operational carbon, with emissions caused by the manufacturing and installation of construction materials, known as embodied carbon.

Embodied carbon refers to the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted during the construction of a building. The energy needed to extract, manufacture, transport and install materials all contribute to estimating embodied carbon levels.

AWIP is committed to reducing embodied carbon from its supply chain through strategic partnerships to incorporate materials that have lower carbon footprints. One of our key initiatives is the use of steel coils produced in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) mills from LEC suppliers. This LEC option is manufactured using over 90% recycled content, significantly reducing the carbon intensity of the production process compared to traditional steelmaking methods. By sourcing EAF steel, AWIP achieves a 20% reduction in embodied carbon for our products. This initiative directly supports our Planet Passionate target of reducing the carbon intensity of key raw materials by 15% by 2030.

Achieving these reductions requires close collaboration with our supply chain partners. AWIP works with EAF steel suppliers to ensure compliance with industry standards and to maintain the highest levels of recycled content and sustainability performance. This partnership not only helps us meet our sustainability goals, but also provides our customers with materials that align with their own carbon reduction objectives.

AWIP's commitment to transparency extends to our EPDs, which now include detailed data on the use of EAF steel. This ensures that architects, builders and sustainability consultants have access to the most accurate and granular information available to support their projects.

By integrating EAF steel into our operations, AWIP is taking meaningful steps to decarbonize our supply chain and contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

AWIP experts will calculate the embodied carbon levels of our insulated metal panels upon request. This service provides architects and builders with precise data to support sustainable design decisions and align with carbon reduction goals.

Energy

Improving efficiency and increasing renewable energy use.

The Pw-R Series enhances energy efficiency by providing exceptional thermal insulation, reducing heating and cooling costs while complementing solar panel systems for enhanced sustainability.

Circularity

Minimizing waste and supporting reuse and recycling initiatives.

Even after a project reaches the end of its life, the insulated metal panels (IMPs) from the original construction can be reused, which helps to reduce the environmental impact of future projects and accelerates our participation in the circular economy.

Water

Reducing consumption and improving responsible water management.

In addition to undertaking water reduction projects across our facilities to reduce our total water consumption, AWIP has implemented rainwater harvesting systems and committed to harvesting 100 million liters of rainwater annually by 2030. These efforts are all part of our goal of improving responsible water management across our three sites.

Our Planet Passionate initiative around water extends to the impact of our Planet Passionate Communities. Our teams support global ocean cleanup efforts by partnering with 4ocean, which has removed more than 50 million pounds of plastic and trash from the world's oceans, rivers, and coastlines, marking one of the largest verified ocean cleanup milestones in history.
